The Problem: Adding Custom Jewelry Choices to an Existing Shopify Store
The original brief was to integrate a TPS ring builder into the client’s existing Shopify website. Customers needed to choose diamond and setting options within a shopping experience that matched the rest of the store.
This introduced several connected requirements. The builder needed to present jewelry choices clearly, supplier information needed to support diamond selection, and the interface needed to work across desktop, tablet and mobile screens.
The original supplier scope covered lab-grown white and fancy diamonds from VDB and Kira, with USD pricing and US English. It called for filters covering attributes such as shape, size, clarity, color, cut and price.
As the engagement developed, TPS’s work extended across ring, pendant and earring experiences. This gave the project a broader purpose: supporting several kinds of custom jewelry within one Shopify storefront.
Shopify Ring Builder Development within the Existing Store
TPS worked on the ring-building experience and the product presentation around it.
For this project, integration meant fitting custom functionality into an established website. The builder needed to sit alongside the store’s existing theme and branding, rather than appear as a separate shopping destination.
The ring-builder scope allowed customers to select diamond shapes, sizes, metal types and settings. Those choices connected the stone being considered with the piece of jewelry being created.
The work also included product galleries. These were part of the selection experience because customers needed to inspect the setting as well as use the builder controls.
By addressing the builder and its surrounding product presentation, TPS worked on the full page experience rather than treating the selection tool as an isolated feature.

Extending the Experience to Pendants and Earrings
The engagement included work on three builder types: rings, pendants and earrings.
Each type had its own presentation needs. The shared idea was custom jewelry selection, but the piece being created changed the information and imagery the customer needed to review.
TPS worked across those experiences, including their galleries and mobile interfaces. This brought attention to the point where product information, photographs and selection controls met on the page.
The mobile work was especially relevant to how those elements fitted together. Product imagery and options had to share a smaller screen, so spacing and layout required their own development attention.
These tasks formed part of the broader builder work, connecting the custom jewelry functionality with the way customers explored it on different devices.
VDB Diamond API Integration and Filtering
Supplier-feed development was another part of the relationship. Later work included handling VDB filter values and developing a natural-diamond feed.
These tasks addressed different parts of diamond discovery. The feed work concerned the diamond information entering the system, while the filter-value work concerned how that information was handled in selection controls.
TPS completed development tasks in both areas. This added supplier-integration work to the storefront and builder development already undertaken for the client.
The original lab-grown brief and the later natural-diamond work also show how the requirements evolved over time. The engagement was not limited to a single set of screens; it continued into the information supporting diamond selection.
The Client’s View of Delivery
The earlier engagement received a public review from Robin Hood Diamonds’ co-founder:

The review adds the client’s perspective to the builder-development work completed during that stage of the relationship.
The Outcome: Custom Jewelry Development across Three Product Types
TPS’s work covered ring, pendant and earring builders, with supporting gallery and mobile development. The continuing engagement also included VDB filter handling and natural-diamond feed development.
The project illustrates the range of work involved in adding custom jewelry shopping to Shopify. The builder, product presentation and supplier information all formed part of the experience.
