The Problem: Moving from WooCommerce to Shopify with Custom Jewelry Features

The project involved much more than moving product pictures and descriptions. Autumn & May needed to bring several shopping experiences into the new store: loose diamonds, gemstones, custom rings and ready-to-wear jewelry.

Each required a different approach. Someone buying a finished necklace could select a product directly. Someone creating a ring needed to choose a stone and setting, review the combination and continue to checkout. The product choices and price had to stay connected throughout that journey.

The brief called for supplier diamond inventory alongside settings from the client’s existing catalog. It also included a separate gemstone catalog and gemstone ring builder. These requirements made custom development an important part of the move to Shopify.

Behind the storefront, the team wanted simpler tools for updating products, content and images. The goal was a website that supported both the customer’s buying journey and the retailer’s daily work.

Shopify Ring Builder Development Around the Customer’s Choices

The planned ring-building journey followed a clear sequence: choose a diamond or gemstone, choose a setting, preview the piece and proceed to checkout.

TPS worked on the engagement-ring and gemstone-ring features, including their listings, selection screens and product behavior. This meant looking beyond how a page appeared and checking what happened when a customer made a choice.

One example was the gemstone builder’s cart pricing. A selected product could display the wrong price after being added to the cart. TPS corrected the issue so that this part of the purchase journey carried the expected price forward.

Another issue appeared when imported products introduced new options. These additional options affected how ring-builder products worked. TPS addressed the compatibility problem, bringing the affected products back into the builder’s selection process.

The engagement-ring work also included navigation linked to the selected center-diamond weight. These details were part of adapting Shopify to the way customers choose jewelry, rather than relying only on a standard product-page layout.

Bringing Ready-to-Wear Jewelry into the Same Store

Custom rings were one part of the project. Autumn & May also needed to present finished jewelry, including earrings and wedding rings, within the same storefront.

TPS worked on ready-to-wear listings and product options. On one wedding-ring page, option selections failed because the order of the product options did not match what the page expected. The team corrected that mismatch.

Other work included fixing homepage links for metal categories and adjusting a product slider for tablet viewing. These changes addressed the paths customers used to move from the homepage into collections and individual products.

Together, the builder and ready-to-wear work covered two important buying journeys: creating a piece from selected components and choosing an existing design.

Preparing Customer Data for Shopify

The move also involved customer information. TPS combined supplied customer data into a consolidated file prepared for Shopify import and produced a separate migration report.

Some of those records came from an earlier Magento system. That history was relevant to the data work, even though the storefront itself was moving from WooCommerce to Shopify.

Treating customer-data preparation as a separate part of the project helped keep its requirements clear. The work involved bringing older information into a format suited to the new store, alongside the development taking place on the customer-facing website.

The migration planning also included mapping old web addresses to their Shopify destinations, connecting the new store with the pages customers already knew.

The Outcome: A Live Shopify Store with Custom Jewelry Development

Autumn & May now operates a Shopify storefront. TPS’s work brought together custom jewelry development, ready-to-wear product work and customer-data preparation within that transition.

The project demonstrates the detail involved in moving a jewelry business between platforms. The work reached from product selection and imported options to cart pricing and historical customer information.
